Application Methods
Direct Application
During facial treatments, the electrode is applied directly over the treatment cream or mask. Direct application produces a warming effect and is commonly used in facial treatments. High frequency may also be used for its germicidal action on oily or acne-prone skin.
Indirect Application
For indirect application, the client holds the electrode while the esthetician massages the area being treated. The electrode should not be held by the esthetician during this procedure. To help prevent electrical shock, the current should be turned on only after the client has firmly grasped the electrode and turned off before the electrode is removed.
For facial applications, treatment movements may begin at the neck and progress upward toward the jaw, cheeks, chin, nose, and forehead.
